Prof. dr. Gustav Strijkers from the Biomedical Engineering and Physics department, jointly with colleagues from Radiology, was awarded an Open Technology Program grant from NWO, domain Applied and Engineering Sciences.
The goal of the project, with the title “Development of an innovative MRI technology to assess micro-trauma in skeletal muscles”, is to develop a novel MRI technique to image micro-trauma in hamstring muscles of elite athletes, and to conduct a prospective study which will enhance routine clinical implementation of this imaging technique following muscle injury. The project involves collaborations with Philips Healthcare, NOC*NSF, MR Coils BV, and The Amsterdam Collaboration on Health & Safety in Sports (ACHSS).
